About The Position
A Farmscape Community Farmer works on our Agrihood team to maintain urban and suburban farms within neighborhoods throughout California, and provide farm and nature related education and programming for community residents. A Farmscape Community Farmer is equally well-skilled in small-scale, mixed-crop farm operations using organic methods and leading vibrant, engaging activities, workshops, and events. You are someone who believes in the magic of farming and gardening and wants to share your love, passion, and knowledge with everyone around you.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with farming team to maintain agrihood farms, including planting, weeding, harvesting, washing, etc
- Lead fun, productive and educational experiences for residents during volunteer shifts
- Assist with planning and hosting of community events like u-picks, workshops, seasonal festivals and community-scale events
- Maintain a disciplined and well-paced work environment
- Ensure premium experience of all visitors to the farm
- Maintain sanitary, safe and organized work and storage areas
- Collect and report data pertaining to harvest yields, volunteer hours and supplies
- Assist with communications, marketing and scheduling with resident participants
- Participate in ongoing training and development workshops and opportunities
Qualifications:
- Applicants should have 1+ years farming or vegetable gardening experience, with strong knowledge of vegetable cultivation and garden maintenance
- Applicants should have 1+ years in leading programming
- Farm or garden management experience is a plus
- Relevant education or certifications is a plus
- Must be a good communicator
- Must have some computer skills, personal device and personal vehicle
- Must implement sustainable practices such as water conservation, pollinator consciousness, soil care, etc
- Demonstrate creativity in coming up with ideas for events, crafts, workshops and community gatherings that are meaningful and sustainable.
- Comfortable leading and speaking to groups.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift 50lbs
- Ability to perform manual work, lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time
- Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions
